Chapter 4

In chapter 4 Murray explained the creative ways to write a story. The interesting element of this chapter is that he compares to the body of a story to different shapes. In our journalism courses we are taught to write in the inverted pyramid. Its very interesting that you can be creative and write in many different styles. "Finding the Line" was a very good tool to learn, Murray says, "The starting point is in conflict. It is not bad news is good news..". I feel like as reporters we think that all bad, tragedy, sad news are good news. We just need to find the central tension and develop a great story around it. Murray also carries a day book, where he jots down different lines that come to his mind every now and then. I find that to be an interesting tool because you can always go back to your notes and utilize those ideas in a later situation. He describes the different forms of a way a line appears, he explains how everyday things can be a line.

"Witnesses urged to come forward in murder cases"
This article really struck out to me because of the gun violence in Boston is at it's most high. There are a lot of unsolved homicides in that city because a lot of witnesses are afraid to speak up. There was a fatal shooting last week in Dorchester and the police wants any witness to come up and  speak forward. One statement that has been said in this article was why should they help police when they don't have protection. This story just reported the issues that Boston Police is having with gun violence in the city.
